At St Elizabeth’s, the role of Governor’s also includes the promotion of the school’s Catholic character and mission. The majority of our Governors are Foundation governors who are appointed by the Bishop and they are responsible for ensuring the religious character of the school is upheld and the school is run in accordance with Diocesan policies.
In addition to this, Governors are responsible for overseeing and agreeing the school budget, premises and admissions. Governors appoint and work closely with the Headteacher who manages these responsibilities alongside the day to day management and control of the school, delivery of the curriculum and implementation of policies on their behalf on a daily basis. The Governors meet regularly to provide challenge and support for the school – they are the Headteacher’s “critical friend”.
If you would like to speak to any of the Governors about their role or their vision for the school, please get in touch with the school office and they will arrange for a Governor to be contacted.
The Board of Governors was re constituted in 2014 in accordance with statutory requirements.
Governors have been very active during the academic year. Our focus has been to work closely with the Head Teacher to ensure that the children attending our school receive the best possible experience. To that end we have worked to ensure that teaching is of the highest quality and that outcomes are in line with, or exceed, age related expectations.
During the year we welcomed several new teachers and we are confident that they will continue to help our children achieve at their highest level by innovative teaching and assessment. Children at our school enjoy a safe and happy environment and our Learning Mentors and support staff work hard alongside our teachers to develop each child to the fullest. We demand high standards of behaviour and courtesy and the Catholic ethos of our school is evident in the care and concern that all feel for each other. Our Patron Saint, St Elizabeth of Hungary, was a woman of compassion, generosity and kindness and those are the traits we expect to find in our school. Our school has access to the latest technology with Green Screen facilities, Ipads and soundfields in each classroom. We value and encourage music and sport and there are many before and after school activities to allow children to have a broad range of experiences. Our Sacramental Programme ensures that Catholic children in years 3 and 6 are prepared for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
St Elizabeth’s is part of two cluster groups. The Francis cluster with our Secondary school Cardinal Newman and our partner Catholic primary schools and the CREST cluster with our local primary partners.
St Elizabeth’s is oversubscribed because parents recognise that their children will be well taught and challenged to do their best in our care. As Governors we are very interested in the views of all those who make up the school community. Governors make themselves available to parents either personally on the playground during the year or through the school office. We visit the school during the day on a regular basis and talk to the children and staff about their experiences and their work. As Foundation Governors we are all practising Catholics and the Chair and Vice Chair can be contacted on Sundays after Mass in St Elizabeth’s church.
Governors have worked with the Head Teacher and his senior leaders to develop an ambitious plan to further develop our school so that we will continue to be a beacon of excellence in Foleshill.
